Recently, people in the tennis ball-green shirts have been spotted around town. They’re the ambassadors—part of a downtown Minneapolis makeover.
They started showing up on Nicollet Mall at the beginning of July. Their job is to make the downtown a better place.
“I always like to point out the ‘i’ for information,” said Ambassador Demetruis Moore, pointing to the letter on his sleeve. He is ready to help with any kind of information.
“I usually get the same questions,” he said. “Where’s a restaurant? How do you get to the Mall of America? And what’s going on today, or for this week? Where’s the river?”
He’s one of the few, the new, the Minneapolis Ambassadors. There are about 50 of them. Employed by the Downtown Improvement District, they are paid by local businesses. The ambassador’s job is to make downtown cleaner, safer and friendlier.
